Senior Microbiologist

AH is the founding industry partner of the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre (APC) based at
University College Cork (UCC) and Teagasc, Moorepark.
AH currently has a vacancy for a Senior Microbiologist. The successful applicant will have
responsibility for the characterisation of probiotic bacteria and their components using molecular,
metabolic and genomics approaches to assess their potential for use in food and pharma
applications.

He/She will be expected to input into scientific direction, staff supervision and to interact with
other AH specialisms including production, immunology, nutrition and clinical trials. The successful
applicant will also interact with AH’s academic and industry partners and must demonstrate
capability to undertake this role.

The ideal candidate should possess:-
• A PhD or equivalent in Microbiology or a cognate discipline
• Greater than 5 years post-doctoral experience in academia or industry.
• Ability to plan and lead in a project-based environment.
• Excellent communication, organisation and inter-personal skills.

In addition, familiarity with GLP standards and a track-record of interaction with relevant regulatory
bodies are desirable.

This is a fulltime, fixed-term contract appointment with the potential to lead to a permanent post.
