NovaUCD is the EUR 11 million Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at UCD.

NovaUCD's vision is to become an international leader in the commercialisation of research and other knowledge-intensive activity. NovaUCD is responsible for the implementation of UCD policies relating to intellectual property and for the provision of advice on the identification, protection and exploitation of UCD's intellectual property.

NovaUCD works with researchers in identifying the most appropriate business model for the commercialisation of intellectual property. This may involve licensing to commercial partners or the creation of spin-off companies.

NovaUCD provides entrepreneurs and knowledge-based start-up companies a comprehensive business support programme comprising advice, seminars, consultancy, workshops and individual training. 4,000 m2 of space has already been developed at NovaUCD and new support programmes introduced to facilitate the establishment of a range of new ventures and other exciting opportunities for commercialisation.

NovaUCD currently has 19 client companies occupying 32 of the 42 incubation units including UCD spin-off companies, BiancaMed and Celtic Catalysts. Other UCD biotechnology-related companies include Berand, Cytrea, Enzolve, and Ildana Biotech.

University College Dublin
UCD has established one of the largest multidisciplinary research institutes in Ireland, the Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research. This EUR 92 million Institute, which officially opened in September 2003 consists of over 300 University researchers. It comprises three specialist centres: Centre for Chemical Synthesis and Biology, Centre for Integrative Biology and the Centre for Molecular Medicine. The four major areas of focus in the Conway Institute are: Cancer, Vascular Biology, Neuroscience and Infection, Immunity and Inflammation.

UCD has been chosen as the location to build a National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT). The EUR 90 million NIBRT will provide resources to leading research programmes, undergraduate and postgraduate education and pharmaceutical bioprocessing addressing key shortages in skilled personnel in the high value biotech sector.
